In addition to his active trial practice, Mr. Singer is involved in numerous alternative dispute resolution proceedings, including acting as a court appointed mediator in a number of large business disputes, as well as to being an arbitrator in cases in Michigan and other jurisdictions. Also, Mr. Singer has been a member of numerous case evaluation panels involving complex civil litigation. Currently, he is a member of the State Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and Chair of its Governmental Affairs Subcommittee.
Mr. Singer has been involved in a variety of civic activities, including serving as a member of the Board of Control of Michigan Technological University; a board member of the Michigan Task Force on International Trade, co-chair of the Merit Selection Panel for U.S. District Judges for the Eastern District of Michigan and as a Judge of the Military Appeals Tribunal for the State of Michigan.
Mr. Singer has also been a presenter at numerous legal seminars including speaking on Damages and Business Tort Cases, The Trial of a RICO Case; and The Fiduciary Obligations of Directors and Officers of Closely Held Corporations.
Mr. Singer is a past chairman of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He has been heavily involved in many other state bar committee activities in the past, including serving on the Michigan Supreme Court Rules of Evidence Committee which promulgated the Michigan Rules of Evidence. Mr. Singer has also authored the Evidence Survey for the Wayne Law School Law Review.
Mr. Singer has also consistently been involved in significant pro bono work, including the representation of former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop as amicus curiae in the United States Supreme Court concerning constitutionality of drunk driving check lanes, representation of numerous elderly advocacy groups in a federal lawsuit against the State of Michigan to maintain a waiver of the Medicare law that allowed elderly clients to remain in their homes with home health care services as opposed to being put in nursing homes, and a class action on behalf of all hearing impaired state prisoners denied appropriate assistance and equipment as required by federal law.
Mr. Singer is AV Peer Review Rated by LexisNexis/Martindale-Hubbell. He has been consistently named as a Michigan Super Lawyer and continues to be recognized by Best Lawyers in America as a “Best Lawyer” in commercial litigation. Mr. Singer is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an editor of the Journal of Law Reform.
